66 AN ACT
77 relating to designating June as Juneteenth/Frontier Cowboy Month.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
1010 amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 662.106. JUNETEENTH/FRONTIER COWBOY MONTH. (a) June
1212 is Juneteenth/Frontier Cowboy Month to:
1313 (1) honor the fortitude and achievements of Texas
1414 cowboys of every ethnic background whose labors contributed
1515 immeasurably to the development of this state; and
1616 (2) recognize Texas cowboys of every ethnic background
1717 as Texas heroes.
1818 (b) Juneteenth/Frontier Cowboy Month shall be regularly
1919 observed by appropriate celebrations and activities.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2121 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2222 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2323 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2424 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
