 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to notice requirements in certain counties for hearings in
 suits for dissolution of marriage and suits affecting the
 parent-child relationship.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 6, Family Code, is amended
 by adding Section 6.412 to read as follows:
 Sec. 6.412.  NOTICE OF HEARING DATE. (a)  This section
 applies only to a court in a county with a population of one million
 or more.
 (b)  The court shall give notice of the date of a hearing in a
 suit for dissolution of a marriage in accordance with Section
 105.0031.
 SECTION 2. Chapter 105, Family Code, is amended by adding
 Section 105.0031 to read as follows:
 Sec. 105.0031.  NOTICE OF HEARING DATE. (a) This section
 applies only to a court in a county with a population of one million
 or more.
 (b)  After a hearing date on a petition or motion in a
 proceeding filed under this title is set, the court shall promptly
 give written notice of the hearing date to the petitioner or movant.
 (c)  Notwithstanding Section 22.004, Government Code, the
 supreme court may not amend or adopt rules in conflict with this
 section.
 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only
 to a petition or motion filed on or after the effective date of this
 Act. A petition or motion filed before that date is governed by the
 law in effect immediately before that date, and the former law is
 continued in effect for that purpose.
 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
