5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The loved ones of Juanita Daughtrey of Powderly were |

6 | 6 | | greatly saddened by her passing on February 8, 2009, at the age of |

7 | 7 | | 86; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on January 9, 1923, in Lawton, Oklahoma, the |
---|
9 | 9 | | former Nita Blaylock was the daughter of Richard and Julia |
---|
10 | 10 | | Blaylock; she graduated from Lawton High School and attended |
---|
11 | 11 | | Cameron College in her hometown; in 1942, she became the wife of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Orie Daughtrey and with him shared a fulfilling relationship until |
---|
13 | 13 | | the time of his passing in 1977; fortunate to find love a second |
---|
14 | 14 | | time, she married Leslie Turner, who passed away in 1994; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Daughtrey was employed as a legal secretary |
---|
16 | 16 | | with the civil service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Camp Campbell, |
---|
17 | 17 | | Kentucky, and in the offices of Dick and Brad Hutchison in Paris, |
---|
18 | 18 | | Texas, and she was a teacher's aide at Aaron Parker Elementary |
---|
19 | 19 | | School in Powderly; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Woman's Missionary Union at Bounds |
---|
21 | 21 | | Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school and served her fellow |
---|
22 | 22 | | congregants as librarian, secretary, and treasurer; Mrs. Daughtrey |
---|
23 | 23 | | further supported her community as a literacy program volunteer |
---|
24 | 24 | | tutor and member of the Order of the Eastern Star; in her leisure |
---|
25 | 25 | | time, she enjoyed playing table games, reading, and cooking; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Nita Daughtrey lived a caring and purposeful life, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and she will forever hold a treasured place in the hearts of those |
---|
28 | 28 | | fortunate enough to have shared in her love and friendship; now, |
---|
29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |

30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |

31 | 31 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Juanita Daughtrey and extend |

32 | 32 | | sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her children, |

33 | 33 | | Peggy Carpenter and her husband, Gene, and Sonny Daughtrey and his |

34 | 34 | | wife, Judy; to her grandchildren and their spouses, Brent and Wendy |
