5	5	WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Roslyn
6	6	Davis Sample of Powderly, who died on February 18, 2009, at the age
7	7	of 81; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Roslyn Davis was born on November 11, 1927, to Lloyd
9	9	and Evelyn Coursey Davis; she was joined in matrimony to Tom Sample
10	10	in 1945, and together they were blessed with a daughter, a
11	11	grandchild, three great-grandchildren, and two
12	12	great-great-grandchildren; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Throughout her adult life, Mrs. Sample served her
14	14	community as a volunteer, working with the American Red Cross, the
15	15	Girl Scouts, the Maxey House, Family Haven, the Retired and Senior
16	16	Volunteer Program, and other organizations; she served on the
17	17	boards of RSVP and the Northeast Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug
18	18	Abuse; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Mrs. Sample was especially active as a supporter of
20	20	Paris Junior College, beginning with her work as an adult education
21	21	outreach counselor from 1980 to 1982; starting in 1993, she served
22	22	on many committees and projects of the school's Alumni and Friends
23	23	Association; she chaired the scholarship endowment fund-raising
24	24	luncheon, and she was a longtime member of the college's alumni
25	25	board, including three terms as president, from 1996 to 1999; for
26	26	her tireless efforts in behalf of the school, she was named a
27	27	Distinguished Friend of Paris Junior College in 2002; and
28	28	WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Roslyn
29	29	Sample dedicated her life to her family and to the betterment of her
30	30	community, and the memory of her energy and her commitment to others
31	31	will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her;
32	32	now, therefore, be it
33	33	RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
34	34	hereby pay tribute to the life of Roslyn Davis Sample and extend
35	35	sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her husband of
36	36	63 years, Tom Sample; to her daughter, Linda Sample Bratcher, and
37	37	her husband, Richard; to her granddaughter, Sarah Upchurch; to her
38	38	great-grandchildren, Sara Beth Upchurch, Cody Upchurch and his
39	39	wife, Mallory, and Charli Gabeline and her husband, Chad; to her
40	40	great-great-grandchildren, Gavin Upchurch and Kylar Gabeline; to
41	41	her sister, Bille Viehe, and her husband, Mike; to her nephew, Mike
42	42	Viehe, Jr., and his wife, Brigitte, and their two daughters,
43	43	Brittany and Blair; to her special friend, Annie; and to her other
44	44	relatives and friends; and, be it further
45	45	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
46	46	prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate and House of
47	47	Representatives adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Roslyn
48	48	Davis Sample.
