44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Roslyn
66 Davis Sample of Powderly, who died on February 18, 2009, at the age
77 of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, Roslyn Davis was born on November 11, 1927, to Lloyd
99 and Evelyn Coursey Davis; she was joined in matrimony to Tom Sample
1010 in 1945, and together they were blessed with a daughter, a
1111 grandchild, three great-grandchildren, and two
1212 great-great-grandchildren; and
1313 WHEREAS, Throughout her adult life, Mrs. Sample served her
1414 community as a volunteer, working with the American Red Cross, the
1515 Girl Scouts, the Maxey House, Family Haven, the Retired and Senior
1616 Volunteer Program, and other organizations; she served on the
1717 boards of RSVP and the Northeast Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug
1818 Abuse; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sample was especially active as a supporter of
2020 Paris Junior College, beginning with her work as an adult education
2121 outreach counselor from 1980 to 1982; starting in 1993, she served
2222 on many committees and projects of the school's Alumni and Friends
2323 Association; she chaired the scholarship endowment fund-raising
2424 luncheon, and she was a longtime member of the college's alumni
2525 board, including three terms as president, from 1996 to 1999; for
2626 her tireless efforts in behalf of the school, she was named a
2727 Distinguished Friend of Paris Junior College in 2002; and
2828 WHEREAS, A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Roslyn
2929 Sample dedicated her life to her family and to the betterment of her
3030 community, and the memory of her energy and her commitment to others
3131 will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her;
3232 now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3434 hereby pay tribute to the life of Roslyn Davis Sample and extend
3535 sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her husband of
3636 63 years, Tom Sample; to her daughter, Linda Sample Bratcher, and
3737 her husband, Richard; to her granddaughter, Sarah Upchurch; to her
3838 great-grandchildren, Sara Beth Upchurch, Cody Upchurch and his
3939 wife, Mallory, and Charli Gabeline and her husband, Chad; to her
4040 great-great-grandchildren, Gavin Upchurch and Kylar Gabeline; to
4141 her sister, Bille Viehe, and her husband, Mike; to her nephew, Mike
4242 Viehe, Jr., and his wife, Brigitte, and their two daughters,
4343 Brittany and Blair; to her special friend, Annie; and to her other
4444 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate and House of
4747 Representatives adjourn this day, they do so in memory of Roslyn
4848 Davis Sample.
