5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

6 | 6 | | memories of Bishop Othoe Stegall of Lubbock, who passed away on |

7 | 7 | | February 17, 2009, at the age of 85; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Afton, Bishop Stegall was born on |
---|
9 | 9 | | October 25, 1923, to Lee Franklin and Alice Ash Stegall; he served |
---|
10 | 10 | | his country with distinction during World War II as a member of the |
---|
11 | 11 | | U.S. Air Force 8th Fighter Squadron; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, Bishop Stegall was |
---|
13 | 13 | | self-employed with an automotive upholstery business until 1950, |
---|
14 | 14 | | when he became an ordained minister; he was licensed to preach by |
---|
15 | 15 | | the Church of God at the age of 25, and in 1954 he was ordained as a |
---|
16 | 16 | | bishop; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Bishop Stegall shared his spiritual guidance with |
---|
18 | 18 | | churches in Stephenville, Brownfield, Sweetwater, Dallas and Fort |
---|
19 | 19 | | Worth, and Paris; he was pastor at Paris Church of God from 1960 |
---|
20 | 20 | | until 1974 and later served as interim pastor for Pathway Church of |
---|
21 | 21 | | God; throughout his ministerial career, he inspired his |
---|
22 | 22 | | congregations with his leadership, faith, and vision; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, he was married to his wife, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Pearl, for more than half a century, and together they raised three |
---|
25 | 25 | | children, David, Sue, and Pat; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Othoe Stegall will be deeply missed, but he leaves |
---|
27 | 27 | | behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who |
---|
28 | 28 | | shared in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Bishop Othoe Stegall and extend |
---|
31 | 31 | | deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Pearl |
---|
32 | 32 | | Stegall; to his children, David Stegall and his wife, Anita, Sue |

33 | 33 | | Boyd and her husband, Foy, and Pat Byas and her husband, Gerald; to |

34 | 34 | | his grandchildren, Sharee and Jacky Howard, Alice Byas, and Shanna |

35 | 35 | | and Chris Whitney; to his great-grandchildren, Baylee, Wade, and |
