44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
66 memories of Bishop Othoe Stegall of Lubbock, who passed away on
77 February 17, 2009, at the age of 85; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Afton, Bishop Stegall was born on
99 October 25, 1923, to Lee Franklin and Alice Ash Stegall; he served
1010 his country with distinction during World War II as a member of the
1111 U.S. Air Force 8th Fighter Squadron; and
1212 WHEREAS, Following his military service, Bishop Stegall was
1313 self-employed with an automotive upholstery business until 1950,
1414 when he became an ordained minister; he was licensed to preach by
1515 the Church of God at the age of 25, and in 1954 he was ordained as a
1616 bishop; and
1717 WHEREAS, Bishop Stegall shared his spiritual guidance with
1818 churches in Stephenville, Brownfield, Sweetwater, Dallas and Fort
1919 Worth, and Paris; he was pastor at Paris Church of God from 1960
2020 until 1974 and later served as interim pastor for Pathway Church of
2121 God; throughout his ministerial career, he inspired his
2222 congregations with his leadership, faith, and vision; and
2323 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, he was married to his wife,
2424 Pearl, for more than half a century, and together they raised three
2525 children, David, Sue, and Pat; and
2626 WHEREAS, Othoe Stegall will be deeply missed, but he leaves
2727 behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by all those who
2828 shared in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3030 hereby pay tribute to the life of Bishop Othoe Stegall and extend
3131 deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Pearl
3232 Stegall; to his children, David Stegall and his wife, Anita, Sue
3333 Boyd and her husband, Foy, and Pat Byas and her husband, Gerald; to
3434 his grandchildren, Sharee and Jacky Howard, Alice Byas, and Shanna
3535 and Chris Whitney; to his great-grandchildren, Baylee, Wade, and
3636 Harlee Whitney and Lexi Howard; to his brother, Henry Rollins, Jr.;
3737 to his sister, Mary Curby; and to his other relatives and friends;
3838 and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4242 Bishop Othoe Stegall.
