44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The late Roxie M. Fine of Orange Grove was an
66 inspiration to numerous people, especially her Family, Career, and
77 Community Leaders of America students at Orange Grove High School,
88 and following her diagnosis with Stage IV unknown cancer in June
99 2008, FCCLA students organized a project called A "FINE" Cause for
1010 Unknown Cancer to raise awareness of the disease; and
1111 WHEREAS, Cancer of unknown primary (CUP) origin is diagnosed
1212 when metastatic cancer is found but the primary site of the cancer
1313 cannot be determined; about two to four percent of all cancer
1414 patients have a cancer whose primary site is never found, making it
1515 difficult for doctors to plan the best treatment; and
1616 WHEREAS, In their efforts to educate others about CUP, FCCLA
1717 students realized that the disease was not represented by a
1818 specific ribbon color, as are other forms of cancer, and they took
1919 up the challenge of creating and implementing a CUP ribbon; they
2020 ultimately chose a zebra stripe ribbon to reflect both Ms. Fine's
2121 dynamic personality and the uniqueness of this particular form of
2222 cancer; and
2323 WHEREAS, Although their beloved teacher passed away on
2424 December 2, 2008, FCCLA students have continued their campaign to
2525 educate others about CUP; they raised nearly $28,000 at the Walk for

2727 donated the funds to CUP research at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in
2828 Houston; and
2929 WHEREAS, Orange Grove High School FCCLA students are
3030 channeling their grief over Roxie Fine into making a positive

3434 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3535 hereby commend Orange Grove High School Family, Career, and
