44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
77 of Joan Sims Vaughan of Clarksville, who died on March 13, 2009, at
88 the age of 80; and
99 WHEREAS, A native of Clarksville, Mrs. Vaughan was born on
1010 January 30, 1929, to Joel Smith Sims and Swann Sivley Sims; she
1111 earned her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at
1212 Austin, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority; and
1313 WHEREAS, Employed for more than 23 years by the Texas
1414 Department of Human Services, Mrs. Vaughan retired in 1991 and
1515 focused her time and talents on volunteer service within her
1616 community; she was a member of the PRIDE organization, served on the
1717 fund-raising committee for the Red River County Courthouse
1818 Restoration Project, and worked with the Chamber of Commerce; her
1919 dedication to her fellow residents earned her the Historic Red
2020 River County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2004;
2121 and
2222 WHEREAS, Mrs. Vaughan was dedicated to her family above all
2323 else; she shared six decades with her husband, James W. "Buddy"
2424 Vaughan, and she lovingly raised her children, Clare Rainey and
2525 James Vaughan, Jr.; she was also a longtime, faithful member of the
2626 First Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship; and
2727 WHEREAS, Joan Vaughan lived a caring and purposeful life, and
2828 her passing leaves an empty place in the hearts of all those who
2929 held her dear; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3131 hereby pay tribute to the life of Joan Sims Vaughan and extend
3232 sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, James
3333 Vaughan; to her son, James Vaughan, Jr., and his wife, Pam; to her
3434 daughter, Clare Rainey; to her grandchildren, Chris Vaughan and his
3535 wife, Michele, and Jennifer Vaughan; to her great-granddaughter,
3636 Madison Vaughan; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
3737 further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4141 Joan Sims Vaughan.
