5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

7 | 7 | | of Joan Sims Vaughan of Clarksville, who died on March 13, 2009, at |
---|
8 | 8 | | the age of 80; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Clarksville, Mrs. Vaughan was born on |
---|
10 | 10 | | January 30, 1929, to Joel Smith Sims and Swann Sivley Sims; she |
---|
11 | 11 | | earned her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at |
---|
12 | 12 | | Austin, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Employed for more than 23 years by the Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | Department of Human Services, Mrs. Vaughan retired in 1991 and |
---|
15 | 15 | | focused her time and talents on volunteer service within her |
---|
16 | 16 | | community; she was a member of the PRIDE organization, served on the |
---|
17 | 17 | | fund-raising committee for the Red River County Courthouse |
---|
18 | 18 | | Restoration Project, and worked with the Chamber of Commerce; her |
---|
19 | 19 | | dedication to her fellow residents earned her the Historic Red |
---|
20 | 20 | | River County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2004; |
---|
21 | 21 | | and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Vaughan was dedicated to her family above all |
---|
23 | 23 | | else; she shared six decades with her husband, James W. "Buddy" |
---|
24 | 24 | | Vaughan, and she lovingly raised her children, Clare Rainey and |
---|
25 | 25 | | James Vaughan, Jr.; she was also a longtime, faithful member of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | First Christian Church and Christian Women's Fellowship; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Joan Vaughan lived a caring and purposeful life, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | her passing leaves an empty place in the hearts of all those who |
---|
29 | 29 | | held her dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
31 | 31 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Joan Sims Vaughan and extend |
---|
32 | 32 | | sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, James |
---|
33 | 33 | | Vaughan; to her son, James Vaughan, Jr., and his wife, Pam; to her |
---|
34 | 34 | | daughter, Clare Rainey; to her grandchildren, Chris Vaughan and his |
---|
35 | 35 | | wife, Michele, and Jennifer Vaughan; to her great-granddaughter, |

36 | 36 | | Madison Vaughan; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it |
