| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable George E. "Buddy" West of Odessa, a |

| 7 | 7 | | passed away on June 25, 2008, at the age of 71; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable tenure, which spanned |

| 9 | 9 | | from 1992 until his death, Representative West served constituents |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in Ector, Andrews, and Winkler Counties, earning the appreciation |

| 11 | 11 | | and admiration of countless people along the way; he was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | particularly active in the areas of energy policy and education, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | chairing the House Committee on Energy Resources, contributing to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | committees on public education and higher education, and supporting |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the growth of his alma mater, The University of Texas of the Permian |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Basin; moreover, he was always a strong advocate for Odessa, the |

| 17 | 17 | | city he called home for more than 60 years; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature has a long history of honoring |

| 19 | 19 | | groups and individuals by designating highways, roads, bridges, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | other infrastructure in their honor, and Buddy West's exemplary |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | contributions to the Lone Star State make him especially worthy of |

| 22 | 22 | | such a tribute; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | hereby request the Texas Department of Transportation to designate |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the overpass at the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 338 in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Odessa as the Buddy West Memorial Overpass; and, be it further |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That, subject to Section 225.021(c), |

| 28 | 28 | | Transportation Code, the department design and construct memorial |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | markers indicating the designation of the overpass as the Buddy |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | West Memorial Overpass and any other appropriate information and |
