55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The live and archived broadcasts of the House and
77 Senate chamber proceedings and committee hearings provide Texans
88 with vital access to the workings of state government and to
99 important issues under consideration that affect the lives of
1010 countless citizens each day; and
1111 WHEREAS, Many people use these broadcasts to monitor
1212 legislative issues and to observe their elected officials at work,
1313 and while the video and audio capacity of both chambers is
1414 impressive, upgrades could be implemented to make the websites even
1515 more user-friendly; and
1616 WHEREAS, Currently, users must watch an entire broadcast to
1717 find the particular segment of interest to them, and this
1818 time-consuming approach may actually deter them from accessing the
1919 material at all; an option to search videos by bill number, author,
2020 witness name, and witness affiliation would greatly increase the
2121 recordings' overall usability and further encourage the
2222 participation of citizens in state government; now, therefore, be
2323 it
2424 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
2525 hereby direct House Video/Audio and Senate Media Services to pursue
2626 appropriate avenues to implement enhanced search options for those
2727 systems that provide broadcasts of legislative meetings; and, be it
2828 further
2929 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
3030 copies of this resolution to House Video/Audio and Senate Media
3131 Services.
