81R20249 CBE-D By: Strama H.C.R. No. 187 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The live and archived broadcasts of the House and Senate chamber proceedings and committee hearings provide Texans with vital access to the workings of state government and to important issues under consideration that affect the lives of countless citizens each day; and WHEREAS, Many people use these broadcasts to monitor legislative issues and to observe their elected officials at work, and while the video and audio capacity of both chambers is impressive, upgrades could be implemented to make the websites even more user-friendly; and WHEREAS, Currently, users must watch an entire broadcast to find the particular segment of interest to them, and this time-consuming approach may actually deter them from accessing the material at all; an option to search videos by bill number, author, witness name, and witness affiliation would greatly increase the recordings' overall usability and further encourage the participation of citizens in state government; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas hereby direct House Video/Audio and Senate Media Services to pursue appropriate avenues to implement enhanced search options for those systems that provide broadcasts of legislative meetings; and, be it further RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official copies of this resolution to House Video/Audio and Senate Media Services.
