| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Duncan Elementary School in Fort Hood has been |

| 7 | 7 | | honored with the 2009 Texas State School of Character Award; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This accolade is sponsored by the Houston |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Independent School District's Character Education Program in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | collaboration with Character Education Partnership, a national |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | advocate for fostering character education in kindergarten through |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 12th grade; CEP acknowledges the exemplary efforts of schools and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school districts in improving the behavior and learning of their |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | students through their focus on building character; having received |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | state recognition, Duncan Elementary School now has the opportunity |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to apply for the National Schools of Character Award; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This notable institution, which is in the Killeen |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Independent School District, was chosen for its dedication to the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | social and emotional well-being of children; guided by the motto |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | "Duncan Dragons Do Their Best!", Duncan Elementary has maintained |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | its commitment to promoting a strong sense of ethics in its |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | students, instilling in them the importance of honesty, fairness, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | responsibility, and respect for self and others; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, By integrating character education into the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | traditional academic curriculum, Duncan Elementary School is |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | building a solid foundation for the future achievement of its |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | students, and in so doing, it is helping many young Texans become |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | productive and responsible citizens of tomorrow; now, therefore, be |
|---|

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | hereby congratulate Duncan Elementary School on its receipt of the |

|---|
| 33 | 33 | | students, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued |
