44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of J. B.
66 Lowry of Paris, Texas, who passed away on December 26, 2008, at the
77 age of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, Born to Clovis and Inis Campbell Lowry on October
99 15, 1927, J. B. Lowry grew up in Mount Vernon, where he lived until
1010 he answered his nation's call to duty and enlisted in the U.S. Navy;
1111 while stationed in California, he met and married the former Cletta
1212 Bates, with whom he raised four children and shared 61 fulfilling
1313 years of matrimony; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Lowry returned to Mount Vernon after his naval
1515 service and worked a series of odd jobs before beginning work as a
1616 salesman for a local Chevrolet dealership in 1949; some two decades
1717 later, he moved his family to Paris and opened Lowry Chevrolet,
1818 which he owned and operated for 38 years; and
1919 WHEREAS, In addition to being a successful businessman, Mr.
2020 Lowry was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and a winner of
2121 numerous accolades for his community involvement; he was named the
2222 1995 Citizen of the Year by the Paris Police Department, received
2323 the Paul Harris Fellowship and the 2006-2007 Lion of the Year Awards
2424 for his service to the Paris Noon Lions Club, and he earned a
2525 Lifetime Membership award from the Lamar County Crime Stoppers in
2626 2002 for his active participation; he was also a past Master of
2727 Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge No. 691 and current Worthy Patron of
2828 Paris Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star; moreover, this
2929 esteemed Texan was selected for the Boys and Girls Club of Red River
3030 Valley Wall of Honor in 2005; and
3131 WHEREAS, J. B. Lowry touched the lives of countless people
3232 during his years on this earth, and memories of him will forever
3333 hold a treasured place in the hearts of his loved ones; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3636 hereby pay tribute to the life of J. B. Lowry and extend sincere
3737 sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Cletta Lowry; to
3838 his children, Tina Anderson and her husband, Mike, Tim Lowry and his
3939 wife, De, Gina Lowry and her husband, Chris Morphis, and Mark Lowry;
4040 to his grandchildren, Christi George and her husband, Aaron,
4141 Elizabeth Carter and her husband, Jay, Stephanie Kirk and her
4242 husband, Kendal, Catherine Peralta and her husband, Jose, John
4343 Lowry and his wife, Adrianne, Jason Burress, Amanda Wilhite, and
4444 Letta Hines; to his 11 great-grandchildren; and to his other
4545 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4949 J. B. Lowry.
