5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The death of Stephanye Irene Sampley of Atascocita |

6 | 6 | | on April 5, 2009, at the age of 34, brought a profound loss to her |
---|
7 | 7 | | family and friends; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Donald and Gayle Sampley, Stephanye |
---|
9 | 9 | | Sampley was born in Dallas on February 22, 1975; a member of the |
---|
10 | 10 | | charter class of Oaks Elementary School in Atascocita, she went on |
---|
11 | 11 | | to graduate from Humble High School and to earn her bachelor's |
---|
12 | 12 | | degree in interdisciplinary studies from Stephen F. Austin State |
---|
13 | 13 | | University in 1997; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, That same year, Ms. Sampley began her career as an |
---|
15 | 15 | | educator, teaching kindergarten at Hopper Primary School in the |
---|
16 | 16 | | Goose Creek Consolidated District in east Harris County; she also |
---|
17 | 17 | | worked at The Learning Tools, a teacher supply store in Atascocita; |
---|
18 | 18 | | deeply committed to her chosen field, she served as president of the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Goose Creek Association of Texas Professional Educators and as an |
---|
20 | 20 | | officer of the Mu Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society |
---|
21 | 21 | | International, an honor society for female educators; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, When she was 10 years old, Ms. Sampley became a |
---|
23 | 23 | | charter member of the Atascocita United Methodist Church, serving |
---|
24 | 24 | | as an acolyte at its first worship service; she participated in the |
---|
25 | 25 | | congregation's United Methodist Youth Fellowship and in the United |
---|
26 | 26 | | Methodist Action Reach-Out Mission by Youth, and was a church camp |
---|
27 | 27 | | counselor for more than a dozen years at Lakeview in Palestine; |
---|
28 | 28 | | while in college, she was a loyal and valued member of the United |
---|
29 | 29 | | Methodist Church Wesley Foundation and served on United Methodist |
---|
30 | 30 | | Church Texas Conference committees as a collegiate delegate; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Stephanye Sampley helped many children embark on the |
---|
32 | 32 | | adventure of education, and in so doing, she had a lasting influence |
---|
33 | 33 | | on their lives; although her time on this earth was far too brief, |
---|
34 | 34 | | the memory of her engaging smile, her kindness, and the joyfulness |
---|
35 | 35 | | of her faith will be forever treasured by all who were fortunate |
---|
36 | 36 | | enough to know her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Stephanye Irene Sampley and extend |
---|
39 | 39 | | deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her parents, |
---|
40 | 40 | | Donald and Gayle Sampley; to her brothers, Travis Sampley and |
---|
41 | 41 | | Stuart Sampley and his wife, Kelly; to her niece, Murphy Lucille |
---|
42 | 42 | | Sampley; to her grandparents, Neal and Fran Galloway; and to her |
---|
43 | 43 | | other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

46 | 46 | | Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
