44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The death of Stephanye Irene Sampley of Atascocita
66 on April 5, 2009, at the age of 34, brought a profound loss to her
77 family and friends; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of Donald and Gayle Sampley, Stephanye
99 Sampley was born in Dallas on February 22, 1975; a member of the
1010 charter class of Oaks Elementary School in Atascocita, she went on
1111 to graduate from Humble High School and to earn her bachelor's
1212 degree in interdisciplinary studies from Stephen F. Austin State
1313 University in 1997; and
1414 WHEREAS, That same year, Ms. Sampley began her career as an
1515 educator, teaching kindergarten at Hopper Primary School in the
1616 Goose Creek Consolidated District in east Harris County; she also
1717 worked at The Learning Tools, a teacher supply store in Atascocita;
1818 deeply committed to her chosen field, she served as president of the
1919 Goose Creek Association of Texas Professional Educators and as an
2020 officer of the Mu Pi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society
2121 International, an honor society for female educators; and
2222 WHEREAS, When she was 10 years old, Ms. Sampley became a
2323 charter member of the Atascocita United Methodist Church, serving
2424 as an acolyte at its first worship service; she participated in the
2525 congregation's United Methodist Youth Fellowship and in the United
2626 Methodist Action Reach-Out Mission by Youth, and was a church camp
2727 counselor for more than a dozen years at Lakeview in Palestine;
2828 while in college, she was a loyal and valued member of the United
2929 Methodist Church Wesley Foundation and served on United Methodist
3030 Church Texas Conference committees as a collegiate delegate; and
3131 WHEREAS, Stephanye Sampley helped many children embark on the
3232 adventure of education, and in so doing, she had a lasting influence
3333 on their lives; although her time on this earth was far too brief,
3434 the memory of her engaging smile, her kindness, and the joyfulness
3535 of her faith will be forever treasured by all who were fortunate
3636 enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3838 hereby pay tribute to the life of Stephanye Irene Sampley and extend
3939 deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her parents,
4040 Donald and Gayle Sampley; to her brothers, Travis Sampley and
4141 Stuart Sampley and his wife, Kelly; to her niece, Murphy Lucille
4242 Sampley; to her grandparents, Neal and Fran Galloway; and to her
4343 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4646 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4747 Stephanye Sampley.
