44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of William
66 Richard McCord of Sumner, who died on May 2, 2009, at the age of 90;
77 and
88 WHEREAS, Richard McCord was born in Detroit, Texas, on
99 December 14, 1918, to Thomas Done and Ida Melton McCord; in 1941, he
1010 was joined in matrimony to his lifetime companion, the former
1111 Gertie Lee Martin, and they shared a fulfilling marriage until her
1212 death in 2005; and
1313 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. McCord
1414 served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II; and
1515 WHEREAS, For most of his life, Mr. McCord lived in Lamar
1616 County, where he was self-employed and worked in dairy farming,
1717 cattle ranching, and hay baling; he lived in the Hopewell community
1818 for 34 years and was a member of the Bonham Street Church of Christ
1919 congregation; and
2020 WHEREAS, While his death has brought great sorrow to all
2121 those who knew him, memories of Richard McCord will be forever
2222 treasured by all who were privileged to share in his love and
2323 friendship; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
2525 hereby pay tribute to the life of William Richard McCord and extend
2626 sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his in-laws,
2727 Roy Gilbert, L.C. and Jeanie Martin, Jerry Martin, Gerald and Jean
2828 Martin, Mary Bray, Louise McGlothin, and Jeanette and Dan Wisely;
2929 to his nieces and nephews, Sandra and Jay Carter, Jeff Franklin,
3030 Rose Franklin, Justin Franklin, and Shirley and Leon Anderson; and
3131 to his other family and friends; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3333 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3434 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
3535 William Richard McCord.
