| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of William |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Richard McCord of Sumner, who died on May 2, 2009, at the age of 90; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Richard McCord was born in Detroit, Texas, on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | December 14, 1918, to Thomas Done and Ida Melton McCord; in 1941, he |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | was joined in matrimony to his lifetime companion, the former |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Gertie Lee Martin, and they shared a fulfilling marriage until her |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | death in 2005; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. McCord |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, For most of his life, Mr. McCord lived in Lamar |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | County, where he was self-employed and worked in dairy farming, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | cattle ranching, and hay baling; he lived in the Hopewell community |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | for 34 years and was a member of the Bonham Street Church of Christ |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | congregation; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, While his death has brought great sorrow to all |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | those who knew him, memories of Richard McCord will be forever |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | treasured by all who were privileged to share in his love and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of William Richard McCord and extend |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his in-laws, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Roy Gilbert, L.C. and Jeanie Martin, Jerry Martin, Gerald and Jean |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Martin, Mary Bray, Louise McGlothin, and Jeanette and Dan Wisely; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | to his nieces and nephews, Sandra and Jay Carter, Jeff Franklin, |

| 30 | 30 | | Rose Franklin, Justin Franklin, and Shirley and Leon Anderson; and |
