5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A distinguished career in education spanning more |

6 | 6 | | than a half-century is drawing to a close with the retirement of |

7 | 7 | | Kathryn Jay Hamilton of Lubbock from the Frenship Independent |
---|
8 | 8 | | School District on May 29, 2009; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton graduated from McMurray College in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Abilene in 1942 and took her first teaching job that same year in |
---|
11 | 11 | | her hometown of Jayton; she and Thomas Hamilton were married soon |
---|
12 | 12 | | afterward, and Mrs. Hamilton devoted herself to raising her family |
---|
13 | 13 | | for the next decade while living in Lubbock and Hale Center; in |
---|
14 | 14 | | 1955, she returned to teaching when she opened a private |
---|
15 | 15 | | kindergarten, operating it for three years; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After the family moved to Paducah, Texas, in 1958, |
---|
17 | 17 | | Mrs. Hamilton began teaching English at the junior high level; in |
---|
18 | 18 | | 1964, she became a high school teacher in Olton and took a similar |
---|
19 | 19 | | job in Post three years later; during this time, she taught English |
---|
20 | 20 | | and speech and coached debate, one-act play, and poetry |
---|
21 | 21 | | interpretation teams; moreover, she also found time to further her |
---|
22 | 22 | | own education, earning a master's degree from East Texas State |
---|
23 | 23 | | University in 1967; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Hamiltons moved back to the Lubbock area in |
---|
25 | 25 | | 1970, and this experienced educator began her tenure with Frenship |
---|
26 | 26 | | ISD in Wolfforth; in the 39 years since, she has been a respected |
---|
27 | 27 | | member of the faculty, teaching senior English and coaching the |
---|
28 | 28 | | one-act play team; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, When the final class adjourns on May 29, 2009, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Kathryn Hamilton will bid farewell to her students one last time; |
---|
31 | 31 | | her presence in the classroom will be greatly missed, but she may |
---|
32 | 32 | | take great pride in her many decades of devoted service as an |
---|
33 | 33 | | educator, knowing that she has made a positive difference in the |
---|
34 | 34 | | lives of countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | hereby honor Kathryn Jay Hamilton for her outstanding career in |
---|
37 | 37 | | education on the occasion of her retirement and extend to her |
---|
38 | 38 | | sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it |
