44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, A distinguished career in education spanning more
66 than a half-century is drawing to a close with the retirement of
77 Kathryn Jay Hamilton of Lubbock from the Frenship Independent
88 School District on May 29, 2009; and
99 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton graduated from McMurray College in
1010 Abilene in 1942 and took her first teaching job that same year in
1111 her hometown of Jayton; she and Thomas Hamilton were married soon
1212 afterward, and Mrs. Hamilton devoted herself to raising her family
1313 for the next decade while living in Lubbock and Hale Center; in
1414 1955, she returned to teaching when she opened a private
1515 kindergarten, operating it for three years; and
1616 WHEREAS, After the family moved to Paducah, Texas, in 1958,
1717 Mrs. Hamilton began teaching English at the junior high level; in
1818 1964, she became a high school teacher in Olton and took a similar
1919 job in Post three years later; during this time, she taught English
2020 and speech and coached debate, one-act play, and poetry
2121 interpretation teams; moreover, she also found time to further her
2222 own education, earning a master's degree from East Texas State
2323 University in 1967; and
2424 WHEREAS, The Hamiltons moved back to the Lubbock area in
2525 1970, and this experienced educator began her tenure with Frenship
2626 ISD in Wolfforth; in the 39 years since, she has been a respected
2727 member of the faculty, teaching senior English and coaching the
2828 one-act play team; and
2929 WHEREAS, When the final class adjourns on May 29, 2009,
3030 Kathryn Hamilton will bid farewell to her students one last time;
3131 her presence in the classroom will be greatly missed, but she may
3232 take great pride in her many decades of devoted service as an
3333 educator, knowing that she has made a positive difference in the
3434 lives of countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3636 hereby honor Kathryn Jay Hamilton for her outstanding career in
3737 education on the occasion of her retirement and extend to her
3838 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
3939 further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for Mrs. Hamilton as an expression of high regard by the
4242 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
