 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, A distinguished career in education spanning more
 than a half-century is drawing to a close with the retirement of
 Kathryn Jay Hamilton of Lubbock from the Frenship Independent
 School District on May 29, 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton graduated from McMurray College in
 Abilene in 1942 and took her first teaching job that same year in
 her hometown of Jayton; she and Thomas Hamilton were married soon
 afterward, and Mrs. Hamilton devoted herself to raising her family
 for the next decade while living in Lubbock and Hale Center; in
 1955, she returned to teaching when she opened a private
 kindergarten, operating it for three years; and
 WHEREAS, After the family moved to Paducah, Texas, in 1958,
 Mrs. Hamilton began teaching English at the junior high level; in
 1964, she became a high school teacher in Olton and took a similar
 job in Post three years later; during this time, she taught English
 and speech and coached debate, one-act play, and poetry
 interpretation teams; moreover, she also found time to further her
 own education, earning a master's degree from East Texas State
 University in 1967; and
 WHEREAS, The Hamiltons moved back to the Lubbock area in
 1970, and this experienced educator began her tenure with Frenship
 ISD in Wolfforth; in the 39 years since, she has been a respected
 member of the faculty, teaching senior English and coaching the
 one-act play team; and
 WHEREAS, When the final class adjourns on May 29, 2009,
 Kathryn Hamilton will bid farewell to her students one last time;
 her presence in the classroom will be greatly missed, but she may
 take great pride in her many decades of devoted service as an
 educator, knowing that she has made a positive difference in the
 lives of countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby honor Kathryn Jay Hamilton for her outstanding career in
 education on the occasion of her retirement and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Hamilton as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
