44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Clyde
66 Donald Smith of Paris, Texas, who passed away on May 2, 2009, at the
77 age of 69; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on April 1, 1940, to Clyde and Ruby Phipps Smith
99 in Lamar County, Don Smith graduated from Cunningham High School in
1010 1958 and answered his nation's call to duty with service in the U.S.
1111 Army, 49th Armored Division; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Smith married Nita Gordon in 1961, and the
1313 couple shared 47 rewarding years of life together; they raised a
1414 loving family that included a son, Nick, and a daughter-in-law,
1515 Rhonda, as well as two grandchildren, Shea and Trevor; and
1616 WHEREAS, An employee of the Campbell Soup Company before his
1717 retirement, Mr. Smith also worked as a cattle rancher; he belonged
1818 to the United Pentecostal Church, where he was a member of the board
1919 and head usher; and
2020 WHEREAS, Don Smith devoted himself to serving his country,
2121 his family, and his faith, and he leaves his loved ones with many
2222 treasured memories of the happy times they spent in his company;
2323 now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
2525 hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Donald Smith and extend
2626 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Nita
2727 Smith; to his son, Nick Smith, and his wife, Rhonda; to his
2828 grandchildren, Shea and Trevor Smith; to his brother, Gene Smith,
2929 and his wife, Cecelia; to his sisters, Pauline Plott, Marie Yancy,
3030 and Cynthia Smith; to his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leta
3131 and Gary Holcomb; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
3232 further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3434 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3535 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
3636 Don Smith.
