| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of Clyde |

| 6 | 6 | | Donald Smith of Paris, Texas, who passed away on May 2, 2009, at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | age of 69; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on April 1, 1940, to Clyde and Ruby Phipps Smith |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in Lamar County, Don Smith graduated from Cunningham High School in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1958 and answered his nation's call to duty with service in the U.S. |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Army, 49th Armored Division; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith married Nita Gordon in 1961, and the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | couple shared 47 rewarding years of life together; they raised a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | loving family that included a son, Nick, and a daughter-in-law, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Rhonda, as well as two grandchildren, Shea and Trevor; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, An employee of the Campbell Soup Company before his |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | retirement, Mr. Smith also worked as a cattle rancher; he belonged |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to the United Pentecostal Church, where he was a member of the board |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and head usher; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Don Smith devoted himself to serving his country, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | his family, and his faith, and he leaves his loved ones with many |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | treasured memories of the happy times they spent in his company; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Clyde Donald Smith and extend |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Nita |

| 27 | 27 | | Smith; to his son, Nick Smith, and his wife, Rhonda; to his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | grandchildren, Shea and Trevor Smith; to his brother, Gene Smith, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and his wife, Cecelia; to his sisters, Pauline Plott, Marie Yancy, |
