44 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, Denton County communities and organizations
66 rendered invaluable aid to countless individuals in the aftermath
77 of Hurricane Ike; and
88 WHEREAS, The Denton County Hurricane Task Force was activated
99 and deployed to the Gulf Coast on September 13, 2008; participants
1010 included the Denton County Sheriff's Office, Denton County
1111 Emergency Services, the City of Lewisville, the City of Highland
1212 Village, the City of Denton, the City of Little Elm, the City of
1313 Frisco, the City of Carrollton, the City of Pilot Point, the Town of
1414 Double Oak, the Town of Flower Mound, the Town of Coppell, and Lake
1515 Cities; in addition, first responders from the City of The Colony,
1616 the City of Denton, and Denton County deployed early on September 9,
1717 2008, to help with search and rescue preparation efforts; and
1818 WHEREAS, The county further contributed to the state's
1919 request for assistance by welcoming several hundred evacuees to
2020 shelters in Carrollton, Lewisville, Corinth, and Denton, as well as
2121 to three county sites, and Denton Municipal Electric helped with
2222 the restoration of electric power in Liberty; and
2323 WHEREAS, Many local organizations also gave generously of
2424 their time and resources, among them the Denton County Medical
2525 Reserve Corps, the Denton County Community Emergency Response Team,
2626 the Denton County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, the Denton
2727 County Volunteer Organizations Aiding in Disasters, Camp Copass,
2828 First Baptist Church in Denton, Crosspointe, First Baptist Church
2929 in Lewisville, Village Church, Highland Baptist Church, the Dallas
3030 Area Red Cross--Denton Branch, and the University of North Texas;
3131 and
3232 WHEREAS, Times of great crisis often inspire noble actions,
3333 and Hurricane Ike proved to be no exception, as evidenced by the
3434 extraordinary relief efforts of communities and organizations in
3535 Denton County; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
3737 hereby commend all those in Denton County who participated in the
3838 emergency response to Hurricane Ike and extend to them sincere
3939 gratitude for their hard work and dedication.
