H.C.R. No. 58
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, After more than four decades of exemplary service,
Colonel Thomas A. Davis, Jr., retired from the Texas Department of
Public Safety on August 31, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Davis joined the Texas Department of Public
Safety on November 18, 1964; following his graduation from the DPS
Academy, he worked in Houston at the Driver License Service, the
Highway Patrol Service, and the Criminal Intelligence Service; he
transferred to Austin in 1983, with his promotion to sergeant, and
he subsequently became assistant service commander; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Colonel Davis took on
ever-increasing responsibility as assistant chief and chief of the
Criminal Law Enforcement Division; he was named assistant director
of the agency in 1996, and he skillfully led DPS as its director
from March 1, 2000, until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed public servant further distinguished
himself as a board member of the Texas Board of Private
Investigators and Private Security Agencies, the Automobile
Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, and the Fleetwood Memorial
Foundation; a longtime member of the International Association of
Chiefs of Police, he also holds master and instructor licenses with
the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and
Education; and
WHEREAS, The commitment, professionalism, and leadership of
Tommy Davis have greatly benefited the people of Texas, and his
steadfast efforts in behalf of public safety have earned him the
lasting respect and admiration of all who have been privileged to
work with him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate Colonel Thomas A. Davis, Jr., on his retirement
as director of the Texas Department of Public Safety and honor him
for his numerous contributions to the state; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Colonel Davis as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
