| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, IH-610 in Houston, commonly known as Loop 610, runs |

| 7 | 7 | | more than 38 miles around the central part of the city and provides |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | an essential transportation artery for commuters; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The southern section of the freeway, or the South |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Loop, runs east and west and was once well-known as the site of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Astrodome and AstroWorld; today, the South Loop is home to Reliant |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Park and a variety of businesses, and numerous residents who live |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nearby rely on the South Loop for their daily transportation needs; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Cullen Boulevard is a major north-south |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | thoroughfare in the area, passing under the South Loop just east of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the South Loop-Texas 288 interchange; the westbound lanes of the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | South Loop do not have a Cullen Boulevard exit, and the absence of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | such an exit inconveniences residents and businesses alike; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | deliveries to and from businesses are needlessly time intensive, as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | are simple trips for residents who live off Cullen; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | responsible for building exit ramps at strategic points along |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | federal and state freeways, and Cullen Boulevard, with its |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | proximity to businesses and neighborhoods, certainly qualifies as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | an important access point for local motorists; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | hereby direct the Texas Department of Transportation to construct |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | an exit ramp for Cullen Boulevard off westbound IH-610 South; and, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | copy of this resolution to the chair of the Texas Transportation |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Commission and to the executive director of the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Transportation. |
