55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, IH-610 in Houston, commonly known as Loop 610, runs
77 more than 38 miles around the central part of the city and provides
88 an essential transportation artery for commuters; and
99 WHEREAS, The southern section of the freeway, or the South
1010 Loop, runs east and west and was once well-known as the site of the
1111 Astrodome and AstroWorld; today, the South Loop is home to Reliant
1212 Park and a variety of businesses, and numerous residents who live
1313 nearby rely on the South Loop for their daily transportation needs;
1414 and
1515 WHEREAS, Cullen Boulevard is a major north-south
1616 thoroughfare in the area, passing under the South Loop just east of
1717 the South Loop-Texas 288 interchange; the westbound lanes of the
1818 South Loop do not have a Cullen Boulevard exit, and the absence of
1919 such an exit inconveniences residents and businesses alike;
2020 deliveries to and from businesses are needlessly time intensive, as
2121 are simple trips for residents who live off Cullen; and
2222 WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation is
2323 responsible for building exit ramps at strategic points along
2424 federal and state freeways, and Cullen Boulevard, with its
2525 proximity to businesses and neighborhoods, certainly qualifies as
2626 an important access point for local motorists; now, therefore, be
2727 it
2828 RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas
2929 hereby direct the Texas Department of Transportation to construct
3030 an exit ramp for Cullen Boulevard off westbound IH-610 South; and,
3131 be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official
3333 copy of this resolution to the chair of the Texas Transportation
3434 Commission and to the executive director of the Texas Department of
3535 Transportation.
