No. 70 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, IH-610 in Houston, commonly known as Loop 610, runs more than 38 miles around the central part of the city and provides an essential transportation artery for commuters; and WHEREAS, The southern section of the freeway, or the South Loop, runs east and west and was once well-known as the site of the Astrodome and AstroWorld; today, the South Loop is home to Reliant Park and a variety of businesses, and numerous residents who live nearby rely on the South Loop for their daily transportation needs; and WHEREAS, Cullen Boulevard is a major north-south thoroughfare in the area, passing under the South Loop just east of the South Loop-Texas 288 interchange; the westbound lanes of the South Loop do not have a Cullen Boulevard exit, and the absence of such an exit inconveniences residents and businesses alike; deliveries to and from businesses are needlessly time intensive, as are simple trips for residents who live off Cullen; and WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation is responsible for building exit ramps at strategic points along federal and state freeways, and Cullen Boulevard, with its proximity to businesses and neighborhoods, certainly qualifies as an important access point for local motorists; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas hereby direct the Texas Department of Transportation to construct an exit ramp for Cullen Boulevard off westbound IH-610 South; and, be it further RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official copy of this resolution to the chair of the Texas Transportation Commission and to the executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation.
