| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends of Horace Arnold Durham of Pecan |

| 6 | 6 | | Gap were deeply saddened by his passing on January 9, 2009, at the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | age of 74; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Horace Durham was born on January 23, 1934, in New |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Deal; he shared a half-century of marriage with his beloved wife, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Peggy Jean, and the couple had one daughter, Peggy Lynet, who |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | preceded Mr. Durham in death; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A longtime farmer and rancher, Mr. Durham worked |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | land in Lubbock County before moving to the Pecan Gap area, where he |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and Mrs. Durham operated their ranch for 40 years; active with the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | programs of the Delta County Farm Bureau, Mr. Durham was the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | recipient of the bureau's 2008 Pioneer Award and further |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | contributed to his community as a deacon with First Baptist Church |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and as a member of the Wolfforth Lions Club and Bethel Lodge No. 134 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | in Ladonia; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Horace Durham |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | will remember the way he touched their lives with his kindness and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | generosity, and he will forever hold a treasured place in their |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | hereby pay tribute to the life of Horace Arnold Durham and extend |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Peggy |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Jean Durham; to his mother-in-law, Coye Reid; to his sister, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Johnnye Smith, and her husband, Donald; and to his other relatives |

| 29 | 29 | | and friends; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
