5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Denton Chamber of Commerce is marking a |

6 | 6 | | significant milestone in its rich history with the celebration of |

7 | 7 | | its centennial in 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1909, the Denton Chamber of |
---|
9 | 9 | | Commerce has been guided by the belief that with the collective |
---|
10 | 10 | | resources of its diverse membership, it can accomplish great things |
---|
11 | 11 | | in the local business community; a strong advocate of free |
---|
12 | 12 | | enterprise, this nonprofit, volunteer-based organization has |
---|
13 | 13 | | supported agriculture, education, and the development of new |
---|
14 | 14 | | industries, and it has raised funds for highways and public transit |
---|
15 | 15 | | and for the construction of the city's first hospital, hotel, and |
---|
16 | 16 | | airport; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The chamber strives to be a positive influence on |
---|
18 | 18 | | the continued growth of the area economy, bringing lasting benefits |
---|
19 | 19 | | to all types of businesses; governed by a board of directors elected |
---|
20 | 20 | | from within its membership, the organization is structured into |
---|
21 | 21 | | various divisions that oversee internal operations as well as |
---|
22 | 22 | | business, area, community, and member development; each year, the |
---|
23 | 23 | | board identifies the major issues that the chamber will address |
---|
24 | 24 | | through its Annual Program of Action, and the goals and objectives |
---|
25 | 25 | | of the campaign are achieved by the members' participation in |
---|
26 | 26 | | designated committees; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In addition, the Denton Chamber hosts a general |
---|
28 | 28 | | membership activity nearly every month and offers a leadership |
---|
29 | 29 | | development program; moreover, the organization provides an office |
---|
30 | 30 | | in the city, which serves as an information resource center for |
---|
31 | 31 | | visitors, potential residents, and representatives from |
---|
32 | 32 | | prospective businesses and industries; the office of the chamber of |
---|
33 | 33 | | commerce is a front door to the community, encouraging new |
---|
34 | 34 | | opportunities that are designed to help local businesses thrive; |
---|
35 | 35 | | and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The Denton Chamber of Commerce has demonstrated a |
---|
37 | 37 | | longstanding commitment to building prosperity in this North Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | community, and its members may indeed reflect with great pride on |

39 | 39 | | the contributions that the organization has made over the past |
---|
40 | 40 | | century; now, therefore, be it |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas |

42 | 42 | | hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Denton Chamber of |

43 | 43 | | Commerce and extend to all of its members sincere best wishes for |

44 | 44 | | continued success; and, be it further |
