44 A JOINT RESOLUTION
55 proposing a constitutional amendment disqualifying certain persons
66 from service in the Legislature.
77 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by
99 adding Section 7-a to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 7-a. DISQUALIFICATION OF CERTAIN PERSONS FROM SERVICE
1111 IN THE LEGISLATURE. No person shall be a member of either House if
1212 the person has been finally convicted of a felony, regardless of
1313 whether the person has fully discharged the person's sentence,
1414 including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or
1515 completed a period of probation ordered by any court or has been
1616 pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to
1717 vote.
1818 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1919 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2009.
2020 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2121 proposition: "The constitutional amendment disqualifying persons
2222 who have been finally convicted of a felony from service in the
2323 Legislature."
