| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bowie Elementary School in Dallas was awarded |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | "Exemplary" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | accountability rating system for the state's public schools and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | districts; a campus gains "Exemplary" status if at least 90 percent |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 12 percent of all |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | schools earned this notable distinction; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1968, Bowie Elementary today has an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | enrollment of approximately 450 students, and it provides early |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | childhood education as well as instruction through the sixth grade; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | guided by the motto "Lighting the Way to the Future," Bowie |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Elementary seeks to build a foundation of responsible citizenship |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and lifelong learning for its students and to prepare them for the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | challenges of tomorrow; under the leadership of principal Staci |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Low, the faculty and staff also strive to give their pupils |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | individualized attention to help them realize their full potential; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The teachers and students of Bowie Elementary have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance in their |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | justifiable pride in the prestigious accolade their school has |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | received from the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby honor Bowie Elementary School on its achievement |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | of an "Exemplary" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2008 and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | extend to its students, teachers, and staff sincere best wishes for |

| 33 | 33 | | continued success; and, be it further |
