44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Bowie Elementary School in Dallas was awarded
66 "Exemplary" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and
77 WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from
88 the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an
99 accountability rating system for the state's public schools and
1010 districts; a campus gains "Exemplary" status if at least 90 percent
1111 of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and
1212 Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 12 percent of all
1313 schools earned this notable distinction; and
1414 WHEREAS, Established in 1968, Bowie Elementary today has an
1515 enrollment of approximately 450 students, and it provides early
1616 childhood education as well as instruction through the sixth grade;
1717 guided by the motto "Lighting the Way to the Future," Bowie
1818 Elementary seeks to build a foundation of responsible citizenship
1919 and lifelong learning for its students and to prepare them for the
2020 challenges of tomorrow; under the leadership of principal Staci
2121 Low, the faculty and staff also strive to give their pupils
2222 individualized attention to help them realize their full potential;
2323 and
2424 WHEREAS, The teachers and students of Bowie Elementary have
2525 demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance in their
2626 pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take
2727 justifiable pride in the prestigious accolade their school has
2828 received from the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3030 Legislature hereby honor Bowie Elementary School on its achievement
3131 of an "Exemplary" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2008 and
3232 extend to its students, teachers, and staff sincere best wishes for
3333 continued success; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3535 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3636 House of Representatives.
