H.R. No. 1010 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Bowie Elementary School in Dallas was awarded "Exemplary" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an accountability rating system for the state's public schools and districts; a campus gains "Exemplary" status if at least 90 percent of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 12 percent of all schools earned this notable distinction; and WHEREAS, Established in 1968, Bowie Elementary today has an enrollment of approximately 450 students, and it provides early childhood education as well as instruction through the sixth grade; guided by the motto "Lighting the Way to the Future," Bowie Elementary seeks to build a foundation of responsible citizenship and lifelong learning for its students and to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow; under the leadership of principal Staci Low, the faculty and staff also strive to give their pupils individualized attention to help them realize their full potential; and WHEREAS, The teachers and students of Bowie Elementary have demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance in their pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take justifiable pride in the prestigious accolade their school has received from the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Bowie Elementary School on its achievement of an "Exemplary" rating from the Texas Education Agency in 2008 and extend to its students, teachers, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
