H.R. No. 1024 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A quality education is the foundation of future success, and W. H. Bradfield Elementary School provides students of the Garland Independent School District with a well-rounded academic curriculum and opportunities to develop their individual skills and talents; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1962, Bradfield was named after the former city mayor who became its first principal; the school today has an enrollment of approximately 475 students, who are guided by the motto "It's not what I've done, it's who I am: I am Bradfield's best"; each week, a student from every class is chosen as one of Bradfield's Best as a reward for outstanding behavior combined with scholarly achievement; the Caught Being Good program also recognizes children for their efforts; and WHEREAS, Principal Mary Johnston leads a dedicated faculty and staff, whose endeavors are inspired by the Bradfield mission statement: "Build a positive learning environment, raise expectations for all, appreciate cultural diversity, develop responsibility among students, find the best in each child, instruct at the highest level possible, engage parents and community as partners, learn through problem-solving, demonstrate continuing improvement."; and WHEREAS, For the 2008-2009 school year, Bradfield's theme is "Speeding to Success," emphasizing the diligence of students as they strive to master new skills and acquire the knowledge they need to progress to the next level of achievement; the faculty, staff, and administrators of Bradfield Elementary can indeed take pride in this fine institution and its role in preparing children to become happy and productive citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby recognize Bradfield Elementary School in Garland for its contributions to the community and extend to its students, teachers, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
