| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jon Smith was honored by the Heritage of Odessa |

| 6 | 6 | | Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of |

| 7 | 7 | | his outstanding civic contributions; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the |

| 9 | 9 | | Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who |

| 10 | 10 | | have excelled in their various fields and in their public service |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Jon |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Smith was selected for this accolade in the category of the arts; |

| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A photographer for more than three decades, Mr. |

| 17 | 17 | | Smith has captured panoramic scenes of the American Southwest, |

| 18 | 18 | | Europe, Asia, Mexico, and South America, and he has created two |

| 19 | 19 | | museum exhibits; he is a member of the International Association of |

| 20 | 20 | | Panoramic Photographers, the American Society of Trial |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Consultants, and the Public Relations Society of America; he is |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | also actively involved with the Ellen Noel Art Museum of the Permian |

| 23 | 23 | | Basin, the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, the Boy Scouts of |

| 24 | 24 | | America, and First United Methodist Church; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Smith has demonstrated an unwavering commitment |

| 26 | 26 | | to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his compassion and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | generosity are an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
