H.R. No. 1094
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jon Smith was honored by the Heritage of Odessa
Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of
his outstanding civic contributions; and
WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the
Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who
have excelled in their various fields and in their public service
endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a
special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time
and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Jon
Smith was selected for this accolade in the category of the arts;
and
WHEREAS, A photographer for more than three decades, Mr.
Smith has captured panoramic scenes of the American Southwest,
Europe, Asia, Mexico, and South America, and he has created two
museum exhibits; he is a member of the International Association of
Panoramic Photographers, the American Society of Trial
Consultants, and the Public Relations Society of America; he is
also actively involved with the Ellen Noel Art Museum of the Permian
Basin, the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, the Boy Scouts of
America, and First United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith has demonstrated an unwavering commitment
to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his compassion and
generosity are an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jon Smith on his receipt of a 2009
Community Statesman Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
