| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Fred M. Jones was honored by the Heritage of Odessa |

| 6 | 6 | | Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | his outstanding civic contributions; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | have excelled in their various fields and in their public service |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Mr. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Jones was selected for this accolade in the category of law; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, An Odessa native, "Mickey" Jones graduated from |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Permian High School, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Texas Tech University and a law degree from Baylor University; in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | addition to practicing law, Mr. Jones has served on the boards of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the Ector County Independent School District, the Region 18 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Education Service Center, the Permian Basin Regional Planning |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Commission, and the Odessa Chamber of Commerce; today, he continues |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | his involvement as a board member with the Ector County Appraisal |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | District, Security State Bank, the Texas Association of Bank |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Counsel, and the Colorado River Municipal Water District, and he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | was named Citizen of the Year in 2008; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has demonstrated an unwavering |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | commitment to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | compassion and generosity are an inspiration to all who know him; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Fred M. Jones on his receipt of a |

| 32 | 32 | | 2009 Community Statesman Award and extend to him sincere best |

| 33 | 33 | | wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
