H.R. No. 1100 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Fred M. Jones was honored by the Heritage of Odessa Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of his outstanding civic contributions; and WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who have excelled in their various fields and in their public service endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Mr. Jones was selected for this accolade in the category of law; and WHEREAS, An Odessa native, "Mickey" Jones graduated from Permian High School, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and a law degree from Baylor University; in addition to practicing law, Mr. Jones has served on the boards of the Ector County Independent School District, the Region 18 Education Service Center, the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission, and the Odessa Chamber of Commerce; today, he continues his involvement as a board member with the Ector County Appraisal District, Security State Bank, the Texas Association of Bank Counsel, and the Colorado River Municipal Water District, and he was named Citizen of the Year in 2008; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his compassion and generosity are an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Fred M. Jones on his receipt of a 2009 Community Statesman Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
