| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Adkins was honored by the Heritage of Odessa |

| 6 | 6 | | Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of |

| 7 | 7 | | his outstanding civic contributions; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | have excelled in their various fields and in their public service |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Mr. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Adkins was selected for this accolade in the category of media; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A former sports reporter with Channel 9, Mr. Adkins |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | now serves as director of communications for the Ector County |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Independent School District; he is also active in such local |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | organizations as the United Way and Main Street Odessa, and he is a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Assembly of God Church; in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | addition, he was president of the Kiwanis Club, and the group named |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | him Kiwanian of the Year; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Adkins has demonstrated an unwavering |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | commitment to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | compassion and generosity are an inspiration to all who know him; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Adkins on his receipt of a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 2009 Community Statesman Award and extend to him sincere best |

| 29 | 29 | | wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
