H.R. No. 1101
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mike Adkins was honored by the Heritage of Odessa
Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of
his outstanding civic contributions; and
WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the
Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who
have excelled in their various fields and in their public service
endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a
special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time
and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Mr.
Adkins was selected for this accolade in the category of media; and
WHEREAS, A former sports reporter with Channel 9, Mr. Adkins
now serves as director of communications for the Ector County
Independent School District; he is also active in such local
organizations as the United Way and Main Street Odessa, and he is a
deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Assembly of God Church; in
addition, he was president of the Kiwanis Club, and the group named
him Kiwanian of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Adkins has demonstrated an unwavering
commitment to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his
compassion and generosity are an inspiration to all who know him;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Mike Adkins on his receipt of a
2009 Community Statesman Award and extend to him sincere best
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Adkins as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
