 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Alicia Rascon, chief executive officer and
 cofounder of Latinitas, has made a positive difference in the lives
 of many young Texans; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Jalisco, Mexico, Ms. Rascon grew up in El
 Paso and earned a journalism degree from The University of Texas;
 following her graduation, she worked as a reading specialist for
 bilingual students through AmeriCorps and taught in the Austin
 Independent School District; and
 WHEREAS, Long dedicated to serving her community, she has
 worked as a development associate for the Austin Children's Museum,
 production assistant with National Public Radio's Latino USA, and
 director of communications for CASA of Travis County; in her free
 time, she has volunteered with LULAC, the Junior League of Austin's
 Con Mi Madre program, La Luz de Amistad, and the Hispanic Women's
 Network of Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Today, under her direction, Latinitas aims to
 inform, entertain, and inspire young Latinas so that they may
 become healthy, confident, and successful women; to that end, the
 group uses journalism to provide a forum for Latina youth to have a
 voice, while fostering a positive self-image and encouraging
 cultural awareness and pride; and
 WHEREAS, Latinitas offers a number of programs, including
 LatinitasMagazine.Org, a bilingual webzine especially for Hispanic
 girls; Club Latinitas, an intensive after-school newsroom where
 participants learn fundamental journalism skills; and Teen
 Reporter Intern Program, a mentorship program for high school
 students who help make editorial decisions for Latinitas Magazine;
 and
 WHEREAS, In addition to these worthwhile initiatives, the
 organization provides college internships, holds an annual media
 career and college conference for girls, and hosts outreach
 workshops and camps, which are overseen by Ms. Rascon in her role as
 director of community outreach; and
 WHEREAS, A trailblazer and gifted leader, Alicia Rascon is
 helping to set our youth on a path to a bright future, and her work
 is an inspiration to all who know her; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Alicia Rascon for her work with Latinitas
 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all
 her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Rascon as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
