5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Felipe Romo |

6 | 6 | | Tamez of San Antonio, who died on January 11, 2008, at the age of 65; |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, "Hector" Tamez was born in San Antonio on May 26, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1942, to Arturo and Velia Tamez; he graduated from Tech High School |
---|
10 | 10 | | in 1959; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A talented musician, Mr. Tamez played bass in a band |
---|
12 | 12 | | called the Dell Harts during the early 1960s, performing at dances |
---|
13 | 13 | | and sock hops; at the high point of the group's career, they opened |
---|
14 | 14 | | at Municipal Auditorium one night for Freddy Fender and James |
---|
15 | 15 | | Brown; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Tamez |
---|
17 | 17 | | joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and served with distinction in the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Vietnam War; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Tamez was a partner with his brothers in Tamez |
---|
20 | 20 | | Flooring, a well-known business on the city's west side; over the |
---|
21 | 21 | | course of nearly 50 years, Mr. Tamez became an expert in every |
---|
22 | 22 | | aspect of the business, and he proudly passed his knowledge down to |
---|
23 | 23 | | his son; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Tamez enjoyed playing pool |
---|
25 | 25 | | with his wife, Josie, at the West Side VFW hall; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Hector Tamez was a devoted family man and a |
---|
27 | 27 | | hardworking businessman, and he is deeply missed by those who were |
---|
28 | 28 | | fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Felipe Romo Tamez and |
---|
31 | 31 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
32 | 32 | | wife, Josephine S. Tamez; to his son, Philip H. Tamez; to his |
---|
33 | 33 | | daughters, Sandra T. Rodriguez and Barbara E. Tamez; to his |

34 | 34 | | stepsons, Ray and Damon Rivera; to his mother, Velia T. Tamez; to |

35 | 35 | | his brothers, Arturo, Humberto, and Efrain Tamez; to his sisters, |
