5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the loved ones of Nick |

7 | 7 | | E. Garza, Sr., of San Antonio, who passed away on February 16, 2008, |
---|
8 | 8 | | at the age of 86; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Mr. Garza was born on |
---|
10 | 10 | | September 10, 1921; he shared more than six decades with his wife, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Sarah, and together they raised five children, Susan, Jennifer, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Georgina, Aimee, and Nick Garza, Jr.; he was further blessed with |
---|
13 | 13 | | nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garza served as a member of the U.S. Air Force |
---|
15 | 15 | | during World War II and went on to become an educator and |
---|
16 | 16 | | administrator with the San Antonio Independent School District; he |
---|
17 | 17 | | rose to the position of assistant superintendent, and as a pioneer |
---|
18 | 18 | | in bilingual education, he earned a number of awards for his |
---|
19 | 19 | | dedicated efforts in behalf of underprivileged children; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Nick Garza touched the lives of countless |
---|
21 | 21 | | individuals, and he will long be remembered with special fondness |
---|
22 | 22 | | by his former students and with love and affection by his wide |
---|
23 | 23 | | circle of family and good friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nick E. Garza, Sr., |
---|
26 | 26 | | and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his |

27 | 27 | | wife, Sarah Ann Sears Garza; to his children, Susan Markworth and |

28 | 28 | | her husband, Vernon, Jennifer Smyrl and her husband, Herb, Nick |
