| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

| 6 | 6 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the loved ones of Nick |

| 7 | 7 | | E. Garza, Sr., of San Antonio, who passed away on February 16, 2008, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | at the age of 86; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Mr. Garza was born on |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | September 10, 1921; he shared more than six decades with his wife, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sarah, and together they raised five children, Susan, Jennifer, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Georgina, Aimee, and Nick Garza, Jr.; he was further blessed with |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Garza served as a member of the U.S. Air Force |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | during World War II and went on to become an educator and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | administrator with the San Antonio Independent School District; he |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | rose to the position of assistant superintendent, and as a pioneer |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | in bilingual education, he earned a number of awards for his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | dedicated efforts in behalf of underprivileged children; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Nick Garza touched the lives of countless |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | individuals, and he will long be remembered with special fondness |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | by his former students and with love and affection by his wide |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | circle of family and good friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nick E. Garza, Sr., |

| 26 | 26 | | and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
