H.R. No. 1133 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the loved ones of Nick E. Garza, Sr., of San Antonio, who passed away on February 16, 2008, at the age of 86; and WHEREAS, A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Mr. Garza was born on September 10, 1921; he shared more than six decades with his wife, Sarah, and together they raised five children, Susan, Jennifer, Georgina, Aimee, and Nick Garza, Jr.; he was further blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mr. Garza served as a member of the U.S. Air Force during World War II and went on to become an educator and administrator with the San Antonio Independent School District; he rose to the position of assistant superintendent, and as a pioneer in bilingual education, he earned a number of awards for his dedicated efforts in behalf of underprivileged children; and WHEREAS, Nick Garza touched the lives of countless individuals, and he will long be remembered with special fondness by his former students and with love and affection by his wide circle of family and good friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nick E. Garza, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Sarah Ann Sears Garza; to his children, Susan Markworth and her husband, Vernon, Jennifer Smyrl and her husband, Herb, Nick Garza, Jr., and his wife, Iris, Georgina Hind and her husband, Bob, and Aimee Fite and her husband, Eddie; to his grandchildren, Scott Markworth, Kelly Murray and her husband, Trent, Nikki Gross and her husband, Eric, Elise Quazi and her husband, Moumin, Heather Allen and her husband, David, Kimberly Hind, Rebecca Hind, Lara Woody and her husband, Todd, and Brenton Fite; to his great-grandchildren, Amanda Markworth, Conor, Riley, and Kenzie Murray, Samuel and Theo Gross, Madeline and Kayleigh Lopez, and Makaela Woody; to his sisters, Isabel Garza and Eloise Benavides; to his brother, Ramiro Garza, and his wife, Gloria; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nick E.
