| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Air Force Major |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Christopher Cooper suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | this beloved young man on July 21, 2008, at the age of 33; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Major Cooper was one of six people aboard a B-52 |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Stratofortress when it crashed off the northwest coast of Guam, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | where the airmen were scheduled to perform a flyover in celebration |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the country's Liberation Day; Major Cooper was on deployment |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A native of Austin, Chris Cooper graduated from |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Massena High School in New York and subsequently earned a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | later that year, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | air force and began to fulfill his longtime dream of becoming a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | pilot; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Major Cooper served tours of duty in Iraq and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star for his work as an air |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | force liaison officer with the army in Iraq; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his life, he touched countless people |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | with his kind and caring nature; he was known for his Longhorn pride |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and for his unique sense of humor, which brought smiles to the faces |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of all who knew him; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and this nation, Christopher Cooper embodied the highest ideals of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the armed services, and memories of his love and friendship will |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | forever be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Air Force Major |

| 33 | 33 | | Christopher Cooper and extend sincere sympathy to the members of |

| 34 | 34 | | his family: to his father, Mike Cooper; to his brother, Timothy |

| 35 | 35 | | Cooper; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it |
