55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Air Force Major
66 Christopher Cooper suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of
77 this beloved young man on July 21, 2008, at the age of 33; and
88 WHEREAS, Major Cooper was one of six people aboard a B-52
99 Stratofortress when it crashed off the northwest coast of Guam,
1010 where the airmen were scheduled to perform a flyover in celebration
1111 of the country's Liberation Day; Major Cooper was on deployment
1212 from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana; and
1313 WHEREAS, A native of Austin, Chris Cooper graduated from
1414 Massena High School in New York and subsequently earned a
1515 bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997;
1616 later that year, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the
1717 air force and began to fulfill his longtime dream of becoming a
1818 pilot; and
1919 WHEREAS, Major Cooper served tours of duty in Iraq and
2020 Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star for his work as an air
2121 force liaison officer with the army in Iraq; and
2222 WHEREAS, Throughout his life, he touched countless people
2323 with his kind and caring nature; he was known for his Longhorn pride
2424 and for his unique sense of humor, which brought smiles to the faces
2525 of all who knew him; and
2626 WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor,
2727 and this nation, Christopher Cooper embodied the highest ideals of
2828 the armed services, and memories of his love and friendship will
2929 forever be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, therefore,
3030 be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3232 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Air Force Major
3333 Christopher Cooper and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
3434 his family: to his father, Mike Cooper; to his brother, Timothy
3535 Cooper; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
3636 further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3939 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chris
4040 Cooper.
