| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Locally owned restaurants play a vital role in the |

| 6 | 6 | | life of a community, and for 57 years, Gordo's Restaurant has been a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | popular gathering place in the Highland Park neighborhood of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Dallas; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Pearl Harbor survivor Gordon West opened his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | pizzeria near Southern Methodist University's Ownby Stadium in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1952, and his specialty, round pizza cut into squares, soon became a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | favorite with college sports fans; several SMU alumni purchased the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | business in 1962 and relocated it to the Knox and Henderson area, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | where Gordo's became one of the first sports bars in Dallas; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Current owners George Bakhshmandi and Hossein |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Nikrooh took over the restaurant in 1976, expanding the menu to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | include both Italian and American dishes and providing live musical |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | entertainment; now located near Highland Park High School's |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Highlander Stadium, the restaurant continues to delight four |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | generations of patrons; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For nearly six decades, Gordo's Restaurant has been |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a lively and welcoming meeting place for residents of Dallas in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | search of good times and good food, and the continuing hard work, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | dedication, and community spirit of Mr. Bakhshmandi and Mr. Nikrooh |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor the contribution that Gordo's Restaurant |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | has made to its community and extend to the restaurant's owners and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
