H.R. No. 1169 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Locally owned restaurants play a vital role in the life of a community, and for 57 years, Gordo's Restaurant has been a popular gathering place in the Highland Park neighborhood of Dallas; and WHEREAS, Pearl Harbor survivor Gordon West opened his pizzeria near Southern Methodist University's Ownby Stadium in 1952, and his specialty, round pizza cut into squares, soon became a favorite with college sports fans; several SMU alumni purchased the business in 1962 and relocated it to the Knox and Henderson area, where Gordo's became one of the first sports bars in Dallas; and WHEREAS, Current owners George Bakhshmandi and Hossein Nikrooh took over the restaurant in 1976, expanding the menu to include both Italian and American dishes and providing live musical entertainment; now located near Highland Park High School's Highlander Stadium, the restaurant continues to delight four generations of patrons; and WHEREAS, For nearly six decades, Gordo's Restaurant has been a lively and welcoming meeting place for residents of Dallas in search of good times and good food, and the continuing hard work, dedication, and community spirit of Mr. Bakhshmandi and Mr. Nikrooh merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor the contribution that Gordo's Restaurant has made to its community and extend to the restaurant's owners and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Gordo's Restaurant as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
