5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sam D. R. Satterwhite is concluding his service on |

6 | 6 | | the board of trustees for the Wylie Independent School District in |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2009, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor him |
---|
8 | 8 | | for his many contributions, not only to the community's schools but |
---|
9 | 9 | | also to numerous other civic endeavors; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Satterwhite has served as the executive |
---|
11 | 11 | | director of the Wylie Economic Development Corporation since 1996, |
---|
12 | 12 | | and he has been instrumental in the establishment of many new area |
---|
13 | 13 | | businesses, which in turn have created over 2,500 jobs and |
---|
14 | 14 | | generated a total investment of nearly $219 million; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, One example of his farsighted efforts is the |
---|
16 | 16 | | building of the Woodbridge Crossing shopping center, which came |
---|
17 | 17 | | about through his collaboration with former Dallas Cowboys star |
---|
18 | 18 | | Troy Aikman and the Direct Development firm; moreover, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Mr. Satterwhite successfully negotiated with the Kansas City |
---|
20 | 20 | | Southern Railway Company to remove the main-line track along |
---|
21 | 21 | | Highway 78, an achievement that made a significant and positive |
---|
22 | 22 | | difference in the city; his service to his fellow citizens has been |
---|
23 | 23 | | further expressed through his productive tenure on the school |
---|
24 | 24 | | board, which began in 2006, and through his work as the president of |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Wylie Chamber of Commerce in 2000 and 2001; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A compassionate community leader, he worked long |
---|
27 | 27 | | hours to assist the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who arrived in |
---|
28 | 28 | | Wylie in 2005, helping them to find a new home in Texas and to secure |
---|
29 | 29 | | employment in the area; he also fostered one of the evacuees so that |
---|
30 | 30 | | the young man could finish his senior year of high school in Wylie; |
---|
31 | 31 | | moreover, Mr. Satterwhite plays a central role in organizing the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Wylie Christian Care Golf Tournament each year, which provides |
---|
33 | 33 | | essential support for the local charity food pantry; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Samuel Douglas Ross Satterwhite was born in Ennis |
---|
35 | 35 | | and grew up in Rockwall, and he received his first lessons in public |
---|
36 | 36 | | service from his father, former Texas state representative William |
---|
37 | 37 | | T. Satterwhite; the youngest of four children, Sam Satterwhite |
---|
38 | 38 | | graduated from Rockwall High School in 1986 as the vice president of |
---|
39 | 39 | | his class and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in political |
---|
40 | 40 | | science at Baylor University; he and his wife, Kate, have two |
---|
41 | 41 | | daughters, Allie and Sarah, and a son, Brian, and Mr. Satterwhite |
---|
42 | 42 | | serves as the coach for the children's soccer teams; and |
---|
43 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Through his commendable dedication to a wide range |
---|
44 | 44 | | of activities, Sam Satterwhite has helped make Wylie an even better |
---|
45 | 45 | | place to live and work, and the city's residents are indeed |
---|
46 | 46 | | fortunate to have the continuing benefit of his talents; now, |
---|
47 | 47 | | therefore, be it |

48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
49 | 49 | | Legislature hereby honor Sam D. R. Satterwhite for his many |
---|
50 | 50 | | contributions to the city of Wylie and extend to him sincere best |
---|
51 | 51 | | wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |

52 | 52 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

53 | 53 | | prepared for Mr. Satterwhite as an expression of high regard by the |
