44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
66 death of Dr. Milton Covell, Jr., of Pasadena, who passed on March
77 20, 2009, at the age of 91; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on November 29, 1917, to Milton and Alma Covell
99 in Galveston, Milton Covell began practicing optometry in the
1010 Pasadena area in 1944; he and his beloved wife, Dorothy, shared a
1111 marriage that spanned more than six decades, and they raised a
1212 family of three children who cherish his legacy of goodness and
1313 service; and
1414 WHEREAS, Dr. Covell belonged to the Harris County Optometry
1515 Society, the Texas Optometric Association, and the American
1616 Optometric Association, and he had served as a director for First
1717 Pasadena State Bank and Southmore Savings and Loan; and
1818 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Pasadena Rotary Club for 65
1919 years and the first Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council
2020 3700; a lector, Eucharistic minister, and religious educator for
2121 St. Pius Catholic Church, he also helped deliver communion to
2222 homebound congregants and participated enthusiastically in the
2323 Serra Club; and
2424 WHEREAS, Milton Covell had a passion for books and a love for
2525 the Texas beaches; he was a happy whistler and a man of the times who
2626 enjoyed his computer; he will be deeply missed, but he leaves behind
2727 a wealth of memories to be treasured forever by all who held him
2828 dear; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3030 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Milton Covell,
3131 Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
3232 his wife, Dorothy; to his children, Dr. Paul Covell and his wife,
3333 Joan, Sue Piwonka and her husband, Mark, and Mark Covell and his
3434 wife, Karen; to his grandchildren, Brian, Katie, and Michael
3535 Covell, Laura Covell Anderson and her husband, Brian, Robert and
3636 Alex Piwonka, and Christina and Sara Covell; to his sisters, Nora
3737 Inglish and her husband, Jim, and Eleanor Gardea; and to his other
3838 relatives and friends; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Milton
4242 Covell, Jr.
