H.R. No. 1220 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The outstanding staff of Dobie Primary Elementary School have made great strides in their mission to help children become lifelong learners and achieve academic success through family participation and community support; and WHEREAS, Located in North Dallas, Dobie Primary was established in 1968 to serve students of Richardson ISD; through the years, the school's population has grown and diversified, and the institution, under the able leadership of principal Kay Reynolds, now offers prekindergarten, kindergarten, Even Start, and a preschool program for children with disabilities; and WHEREAS, Today, families of students enrolled at Dobie Primary speak 30 different languages and dialects; more than 80 percent of the children speak only Spanish and attend bilingual classes in an effort to achieve English fluency; and WHEREAS, Recognizing the important role parents play in their children's education, Dobie Primary holds ESL classes two nights each week for more than 300 parents and children, while an additional 100 mothers and fathers attend daytime classes in the Dobie Family Literacy Center; and WHEREAS, Dobie Primary is justifiably proud that the majority of its Early Childhood faculty speak more than one language and that their commendable efforts have contributed to a substantial reduction in the mobility rate of students in the last decade; staff members also ensure that all children eat breakfast each day, providing them with a proper nutritional regimen to promote effective learning; and WHEREAS, By embracing and adapting to the diversity of its students, Dobie Primary is providing Texas youth with a pathway to a promising future, illuminated by the joy of learning, paved by knowledge, and marked by accomplishment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Dobie Primary Elementary School for its service to the North Dallas community and extend to its administration, faculty, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
