H.R. No. 1222 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Jordan Winters, Sr., of San Antonio on February 12, 2009, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, Born in the community of Wetmore on May 28, 1926, Jordan Winters was the son of Albert and Louise Winters; as a young man, he worked alongside his father as a sharecropper until 1944, when he was drafted by the U.S. Marine Corps, and he served his country with distinction through the end of World War II; and WHEREAS, In 1949, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Jackson, whom he had met while attending Macedonia Baptist Church in Jourdanton; the couple enjoyed 59 years together and became the parents of nine children, Edward, Theresa, Vanessa, Melanie, Remethia, Kevin, Jordan, Cathy Ann, and Marshall Devon; and WHEREAS, Mr. Winters drove trucks for Matthews Trucking Company before embarking on a career at Kelly Air Force Base that would span more than 30 years; and WHEREAS, This talented Texan joined his brother in a singing group called the Spiritual Five, and they became well-known throughout the state and beyond for their soul-inspiring performances; in 1962, he was ordained a deacon, and through the years he gave generously of his time to benefit a number of congregations in and around the Alamo City, including Greater Tree Mount Temple Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Jordan Winters cherished his faith and the close relationships he shared with his loved ones, and he will forever hold a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jordan Winters, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Evelyn; to his children, Jordan Winters, Jr., and his wife, Darcy, Edward Winters and his wife, Joyce, Theresa Thompson and her husband, Richard, Vanessa Fears and her husband, Robert, Melanie Brooks and her husband, Mike, Remethia Little and her husband, Harold, and Kevin Troy and his wife, Kathy; to his brothers, Albert Winters and his wife, Pat, Daniel Winters, Gilbert Winters, David Winters and his wife, Dorothy, and Timothy Winters and his wife, Betty; to his sisters, Janie Bennett and Celestine Winters; to his 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jordan Winters, Sr. McClendon ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
