 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, January 26, 2009, signals the beginning of the
 Chinese New Year holiday season and marks a festive occasion for the
 Chinese American community in Texas; and
 WHEREAS, The most important celebration in the Chinese lunar
 calendar, this 15-day observance is rooted in ancient tradition and
 originally paid tribute to the arrival of the spring season;
 through the ages, this period has also been considered a time of
 human rebirth, and many of the traditions associated with the
 holiday reflect the ideal of beginning the new year in a positive
 manner; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to bidding farewell to the previous year
 and welcoming in the new, Chinese New Year activities focus on the
 human connections that are the foundation of life; relatives and
 friends come together to show their appreciation for one another
 and to remember the ancestors who contributed to their family's
 good fortune; and
 WHEREAS, The spirit of giving thanks that underlies the
 Chinese New Year makes this holiday an appropriate time to
 recognize those residents who are of Chinese ancestry and to
 acknowledge the vital contributions they make to the cultural
 vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the Chinese New Year and extend to
 the members of the Chinese American community in Texas sincere best
 wishes for a memorable celebration.
