5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, April 12, 2009, marks the 68th wedding anniversary |

6 | 6 | | of Edgar and Elizabeth Brown of Dallas, and this joyous event |

7 | 7 | | provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable |
---|
8 | 8 | | journey together as husband and wife; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Their first date took place in September 1940, when |
---|
10 | 10 | | William Edgar Brown, Jr., escorted the former Zuma Bell Elizabeth |
---|
11 | 11 | | Way to the Texas State Fair; the pair had met in 1938, at the ice |
---|
12 | 12 | | cream shop in Dallas where Miss Way was employed, and a similarity |
---|
13 | 13 | | of experiences and aspirations would help to draw them close |
---|
14 | 14 | | together; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Born on October 8, 1920, in Irving and raised in the |
---|
16 | 16 | | farming community of Estelle, Mr. Brown developed an appreciation |
---|
17 | 17 | | for education as a young boy and graduated at the age of 15 from |
---|
18 | 18 | | Irving High School, having never missed a day of school; he went on |
---|
19 | 19 | | to attend what was then North Texas Agricultural College, where he |
---|
20 | 20 | | studied electrical engineering; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A native of Grayson County, Elizabeth Way was born |
---|
22 | 22 | | on July 21, 1922, and she grew up, like Mr. Brown, in a large family |
---|
23 | 23 | | that was engaged in agriculture; she attended high school in |
---|
24 | 24 | | Colbert, Oklahoma, during which time she played on a girls' ball |
---|
25 | 25 | | team, and she later moved with her family to Dallas; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Just before Christmas 1940, Mr. Brown proposed to |
---|
27 | 27 | | his sweetheart, and the couple were married in Dallas on April 12, |
---|
28 | 28 | | 1941, in the home of the preacher of Hampton Place Church of Christ; |
---|
29 | 29 | | after the United States entered World War II, Edgar Brown |
---|
30 | 30 | | volunteered for duty with the U.S. Navy, and he worked in the area |
---|
31 | 31 | | of radio technology and electronics until his discharge in 1946; |
---|
32 | 32 | | following Mr. Brown's return to civilian life, he and Mrs. Brown |
---|
33 | 33 | | moved to Dallas, where they raised their three beloved children, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Kaye, Gail, and Bill, and established a successful sound-equipment |
---|
35 | 35 | | business; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Sustained and inspired by their deep faith, the |
---|
37 | 37 | | Browns are valued members of Cockrell Hill Church of Christ in |
---|
38 | 38 | | Dallas; their lives continue to be enriched as well by their |
---|
39 | 39 | | close-knit family, which now includes four grandchildren and five |
---|
40 | 40 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, The 68 years of marriage that Mr. and Mrs. Brown have |
---|
42 | 42 | | shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and |
---|
43 | 43 | | commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who |
---|
44 | 44 | | know them; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Edgar and Elizabeth Brown on the |
---|
47 | 47 | | occasion of their 68th wedding anniversary and extend to them |
---|
48 | 48 | | sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
---|
49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

50 | 50 | | prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Brown as an expression of high regard by |
