8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, |

9 | 9 | | 3rd Heavy "Greywolf" Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division out |

10 | 10 | | of Fort Hood, Sergeant Ward was killed in Mosul, Iraq, when his |

11 | 11 | | vehicle was struck by an explosive device; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Joshua Allen Ward, Sr., was born on October 23, |
---|
13 | 13 | | 1978, to John M. Ward, Sr., and Patricia Irene Lyles Ward; he was a |

14 | 14 | | 1997 graduate of Needville High School, where he was a star football |
---|
15 | 15 | | player; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty after the |
---|
17 | 17 | | attacks of 9/11, Mr. Ward enlisted in the army in 2001 and trained |
---|
18 | 18 | | at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was serving his third deployment in Iraq |
---|
19 | 19 | | at the time of his death; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Ward was a courageous and highly decorated |
---|
21 | 21 | | soldier who received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, three Army |
---|
22 | 22 | | Commendation Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, and the National |
---|
23 | 23 | | Defense Service Medal, among others; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and |
---|
25 | 25 | | country, Joshua Ward upheld the highest ideals of the United States |
---|
26 | 26 | | armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude |
---|
27 | 27 | | that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it |

28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Joshua Allen |
