 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sense of loss
 felt by the family and friends of U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua Ward of
 Killeen, who died on February 9, 2009, at the age of 30; and
 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment,
 3rd Heavy "Greywolf" Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division out
 of Fort Hood, Sergeant Ward was killed in Mosul, Iraq, when his
 vehicle was struck by an explosive device; and
 WHEREAS, Joshua Allen Ward, Sr., was born on October 23,
 1978, to John M. Ward, Sr., and Patricia Irene Lyles Ward; he was a
 1997 graduate of Needville High School, where he was a star football
 player; and
 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty after the
 attacks of 9/11, Mr. Ward enlisted in the army in 2001 and trained
 at Fort Knox, Kentucky; he was serving his third deployment in Iraq
 at the time of his death; and
 WHEREAS, Sergeant Ward was a courageous and highly decorated
 soldier who received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, three Army
 Commendation Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, and the National
 Defense Service Medal, among others; and
 WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and
 country, Joshua Ward upheld the highest ideals of the United States
 armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude
 that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Joshua Allen
 Ward, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:
 to his sons, Joshua Allen Ward, Jr., and Zane Tyler Ward; to his
 parents, John M. Ward, Sr., and Patricia Irene Lyles Ward; to his
 brothers, Benjamin Wayne Ward, Eric Johnathon Ward, and Johnny
 M. Ward, Jr.; to his sister, Brandi Elaine Claire Ward; to his
 fiance, Deonna Julia Gunderson; to his sons' mother, Misty Dawn
 Calvert Ward; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joshua
 Ward.
