44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Edmund
66 G. Peterson of Irving, who passed away on March 18, 2009, at the age
77 of 88; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Edmund B. and Addie Hunt Peterson, "Pete"
99 Peterson was born on August 22, 1920, in California; he later
1010 relocated to the Lone Star State, and he graduated from Ball High
1111 School in Galveston; answering his nation's call to duty, he joined
1212 the United States Army, serving as a first lieutenant, unit
1313 commander, and operations and training staff officer in the
1414 Philippines during World War II, and he received a Purple Heart and
1515 the U.S. Army Bronze Commendation Medal; Mr. Peterson went on to
1616 attend The University of Texas, where he played football, as well as
1717 the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mr. Peterson pursued a career as a civil engineer,
1919 and he worked on such projects as the Panama Canal, the World Trade
2020 Center in Dallas, and the original Women's Building at Dallas Fair
2121 Park; he was further engaged in numerous business ventures as a
2222 commercial and industrial real estate developer and an
2323 entrepreneur; he launched Peterson Research and Development, and he
2424 was a delegate to the World Service Office, traveling as a diplomat
2525 and helping to enhance the international globalization of various
2626 trade markets; and
2727 WHEREAS, Active in the community, Mr. Peterson was a founder
2828 of the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Dallas and of the Dallas
2929 Symphony's summer concerts, and he also owned a cancer research
3030 clinic; a music lover, he played the trumpet, and he was the
3131 executive producer and proprietor of the Maple Theater, which
3232 featured plays, musicals, and operas; moreover, Mr. Peterson was a
3333 gourmet cook, an aviator, and a rancher, and he took great pleasure
3434 in spending time with his family; and
3535 WHEREAS, A dedicated citizen and a successful businessman,
3636 Pete Peterson was an inspiration to many, and he will be greatly
3737 missed by all those who were fortunate enough to share in his love
3838 and friendship; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edmund G. Peterson
4141 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4242 children, Deborah M. Hunt and her husband, Richard, Kathryn A.
4343 "Missi" Hunt and her husband, Dennis, and Grant T. Peterson and his
4444 wife, Patricia; to his grandchildren, Laura Chambers, Maddie
4545 Peterson, and Preston Hunt; to his great-grandchildren, Allison and
4646 Hunter Chambers; to his stepson, Doug Peterson, and his wife,
4747 Victoria; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edmund G.
5151 Peterson.
