H.R. No. 1254 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Edmund G. Peterson of Irving, who passed away on March 18, 2009, at the age of 88; and WHEREAS, The son of Edmund B. and Addie Hunt Peterson, "Pete" Peterson was born on August 22, 1920, in California; he later relocated to the Lone Star State, and he graduated from Ball High School in Galveston; answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the United States Army, serving as a first lieutenant, unit commander, and operations and training staff officer in the Philippines during World War II, and he received a Purple Heart and the U.S. Army Bronze Commendation Medal; Mr. Peterson went on to attend The University of Texas, where he played football, as well as the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology; and WHEREAS, Mr. Peterson pursued a career as a civil engineer, and he worked on such projects as the Panama Canal, the World Trade Center in Dallas, and the original Women's Building at Dallas Fair Park; he was further engaged in numerous business ventures as a commercial and industrial real estate developer and an entrepreneur; he launched Peterson Research and Development, and he was a delegate to the World Service Office, traveling as a diplomat and helping to enhance the international globalization of various trade markets; and WHEREAS, Active in the community, Mr. Peterson was a founder of the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Dallas and of the Dallas Symphony's summer concerts, and he also owned a cancer research clinic; a music lover, he played the trumpet, and he was the executive producer and proprietor of the Maple Theater, which featured plays, musicals, and operas; moreover, Mr. Peterson was a gourmet cook, an aviator, and a rancher, and he took great pleasure in spending time with his family; and WHEREAS, A dedicated citizen and a successful businessman, Pete Peterson was an inspiration to many, and he will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edmund G. Peterson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Deborah M. Hunt and her husband, Richard, Kathryn A. "Missi" Hunt and her husband, Dennis, and Grant T. Peterson and his wife, Patricia; to his grandchildren, Laura Chambers, Maddie Peterson, and Preston Hunt; to his great-grandchildren, Allison and Hunter Chambers; to his stepson, Doug Peterson, and his wife, Victoria; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edmund G.
